Batteries 75D23L

75D23L

Currently, there are a large number of car batteries from various manufacturers with different markings on sale. To replace a failed battery, you need to know exactly its electrical parameters and sizes, which can be found in the information printed by the manufacturer on the case. Sometimes there are difficulties in deciphering the signs used by Asian car battery manufacturers.

What is a 75D23L battery

In China, South Korea and Japan, the Japanese industry standard JIS D 5301 from 2006 (most recent updates in 2016) is commonly used in the manufacture of 12-volt lead-acid starter batteries.

One of the most common alphanumeric codes on such current sources is 75D23L, less commonly 75D23R.

So they designate Asian automobile batteries for 12 volts of class B (medium power), which have terminals of the ASIA type (anode diameter (+) 12.7 mm, cathode (-) 11.1 mm) with reverse contact arrangement (minus on the left) .

They are often equipped with cars produced by Mitsubisi, Nissan, Subaru, Toyota, Mazda, Honda, Accura, Lexus, Infiniti. Over time, any battery inevitably fails, so you need to know how it can be replaced.

Decryption of the battery 75D23L and 75D23R

The first number of code, consisting of two or three digits, indicates the coefficient corresponding to the operational class of performance of a particular battery. It characterizes the current characteristics of the battery, while the larger this number, the stronger the current source.

Explanation of symbols

To accurately decipher the battery power factor according to the JIS standard, it is necessary to study the current performance of the battery according to its table 1. According to the standard, the full electric capacity of a fully charged battery is measured when it is discharged for 5 hours to a voltage of 10.5 v. European standards provide for a 20-hour continuous operation of the battery at a discharge of up to 10.5 volts, so the value of this current is also indicated in the Japanese standard in table 6.

You can download a PDF file with a detailed description of the JIS D 5301: 2016 standard with all tables and attachments HERE.

A value of 75 in this case means that the battery capacity is 60-65 A / h, and its starting current is 510-630 amperes.

The letter and two digits following the current characteristics make it possible to distinguish different batteries in size:

  • the letter D indicates a width of 170 mm and a height of 200 mm. Dimensions may vary by several millimeters;
    1. A - width 125 mm, height 160 mm;
    2. B - width 127 mm, height 200 mm;
    3. C - width 133 mm, height 204 mm;
    4. D - width 175 mm, height 200 mm;
    5. E - width 173 mm, height 209 mm;
    6. F - width 180 mm, height 210 mm;
    7. G - width 220 mm, height 210 mm.
  • a two-digit number indicating the length in centimeters (in this case, 23 cm).

The last letter informs about the location of the negative terminal (L - on the left, R - on the right). Thus, the battery marked 75D23R in electrical parameters is completely identical to the model 75D23L, but their polarity is different.

The case must also indicate the name of the manufacturer or its abbreviation, four-digit information about the month and year of release, two digits per month and year.

Decoding additives MF, CMF, SMF

An additional letter code is applied to the batteries, which indicates the procedure for its maintenance. There are three values of this code:

  • MF - low maintenance battery (maintenance free);
  • CMF - completely maintenance-free battery (complete maintenance free);
  • SMF - sealed maintenance free battery.

The difference between the two is that in the SMF battery, water loss in the electrolyte and gas generation are so small that it is completely sealed and does not require monitoring of the electrolyte level.

SMF Rocket

The CMF batteries should not need to top up the electrolyte during operation, but periodically it is necessary to control its level and add distilled water through a special hole if necessary.

MF batteries have special openings that are sealed with plugs that allow condensation of electrolyte vapor and the return of moisture to the battery. However, over time, the water level in them decreases due to plate degradation and other losses. Therefore, when operating MF batteries, it is necessary to periodically (once every 6-12 months) monitor the electrolyte level and add distilled water to the banks.

General characteristics of the battery 75d23l

According to JIS D 5301 table 1, such a battery has the following technical characteristics:

  • rated voltage - 12 volts (two volts per bank);
  • capacity at a five-hour discharge up to 10.5 volts - 52 A / h;
  • discharge current, at which the voltage drops to 10.5 volts in 20 hours - 2.9 amperes;
  • cold start current - at least 465 amperes (while maintaining a voltage of at least 7.2 volts after a 30 second discharge at a temperature of -18 degrees);
  • discharge time with a load of 25 amperes to a voltage of 10.5 volts (reserve capacity by American standards) - 95 minutes;
  • the maximum discharge time with a current of 300 amperes when the voltage drops to 6 volts is 2.9 minutes;
  • charging current - up to 5.2 amperes;
  • overall dimensions: height - up to 225 mm, width - 173 mm, length - 230 mm;
  • maximum weight - 16.5 kg.

Analogs from various manufacturers

75D23L batteries are not only produced by Asian manufacturers. They are produced by other manufacturers, additionally indicating the word ASIA on the respective models. The following Asian manufacturers produce good quality batteries:

  • Furukawa battery Super Nova, Totachi, Panasonic, Gs Yuasa, Hitachi - Japan;
  • Medalist, Delkor, Zorg, Solite, Hankook, Numax, Rocket - South Korea;

Analogs of 75D23L / R batteries are manufactured by manufacturers such as:

  • Bosch - Germany;
  • Akteh - Russia;
  • Feon - Kazakhstan and many others.

When choosing an analogue, it is necessary to focus on the presence of the corresponding marking (it is usually indicated in the product article) and that the capacitance, inrush current, size and location of the terminals, as well as the mounting method correspond to the original (power and current may be greater).
